(*25. 12. 1935, Zohor - †20. 1. 1997, Bratislava, SK) Albín Brunovský was a national artist, painter and graphic designer of the Czechoslovak banknotes and postage stamps. In the period 1956-1961 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, Department of free graphic art and book illustration, prof. Vincent Hloznik. Since 1967 he worked 23 years as Head of the Department of book illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. In 1981 Brunovský was appointed professor and in 1985 National artist. In 1989 he won in France the award The most beautiful banknote in the world. Albín Brunovský was one of the most important Slovak graphic artist and illustrator of the late 20th century. He was the representative of imaginative realism. In addition to painting and free graphics, he also illustrated books for children and adults.
