(* 1942, Prague, CZ) Graphic artist, painter and illustrator. Karel Demel is one of the most important representatives of imaginative realism in the 1970s and 1980s. Graduate of the Conservatory and the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (Prof. Z. Sklenář). A characteristic feature of his work is a strong inspiration from music and poetry. In graphics he most often uses combined techniques.
Karel Demel has had many domestic and foreign exhibitions. His illustration and graphic work has won several awards. In 2003, the author received the French Order - a knight of the Order of Arts and Literature. His works are represented in the collections of the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava, the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague and the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava.
