Back

The illegal trade in antiquities is worth up to $3 billion annually worldwide. Many works end up in private collections, but also in museums or auction companies. But how do they get there?
How does the smuggling of works from countries such as Iraq, Syria or Egypt end up in the Western market? In the lecture, we will focus on the illegal trade in antiquities from a global perspective, focusing mainly on the following areas:

– current numbers
– the structure of the world market and the mechanism of antiquities trafficking
– the most famous cases that could easily be the subject of a film
– international law and regulation, and who is to blame
– how we can eliminate this problem and why it is important
