(+1948, Žilina) Robert Brun studied at the Academy of Fine Arts (1966 – 1972) in the department of book graphics and illustration under supervision of prof. Vincent Hložník and in the last year under supervision of prof. A. Brunovský. Since 2003 he has been working at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. He was a long-time member of the graphic association G-Bod. He has illustrated more than 60 books, many of which have won awards at home and abroad. Robert Brun is one of the prominent personalities of Slovak graphics and illustrations of 80's and 90's. In his earlier work he focused mainly on figural themes, later he reduced the human figure to a fragment and characters.

Since 1990 he has been devoted to graphic art only sporadically, concentrating mainly on drawing, stamp design and painting. In his graphic works he uses mainly mezzotint, etching and dry needle, which reaches the depth of dark shades. With clear contrasts, he leaves the dominant motif to stand out on a monochromatic background.

Robert Brun about his work: “I perceive creating as a permanent state of confrontation of the internal setting with the reality, as well as a way of interpreting of this equation. As for me, the working process is the act of creativity, which in my case, always involves materialisation of instincts and intuition, and intervention in the space unknown.”
